How can you tell that spring has arrived ? I'll bet that you will say that the snow is melting and the birds are chirping... Well, I would say that at Cultures de Chez Nous, the arrival of spring is when we seed millions of leeks in our greenhouses.

Once it has warmed up to a comfortable level, around mid-May, our planting crew takes care of putting the 4 700 000 young plants un the ground. Once planted, the leeks get all the nutrients they need to grow. With the help of the sun and the care given to them by our workers, our leeks get the best possible treatment. Some will be harvested in August and others late in the fall.

Planting leeks is not the only thing our workers do however. In mid-May, the asparagus sprouts start to come up. Awakened by the warmth, they rise out of the ground and await picking in order to delight your table. While one crew takes care of the fields, another works indoors packaging the asparagus. Once packaged, they are refrigerated while waiting to be dispatched to a center for distribution directly to Quebec's supermarkets. While enjoying the pleasures of summer, why not plan an excursion to the country during berry picking time to stop by and gather your strawberries, rasberries and blueberries, fresh and loaded with vitamins. You'll have a ``berry good time`` Les Cultures de Chez Nous inc.

Good news! Les Cultures de Chez Nous is introducing a new product, the leek-Mignon. We have taken great care in preparing this new product that will brighten your day at mealtime. As its name suggests, the Leek-Mignon is the very best part of the leek, namely the white portion only. Futhermore, its recyclable packaing helps to preserve the Mignons resulting in a clean, healthy, easy to handle product that keeps well and is ready to cook.

And by the way, our chef has prepared some excellent recipes using Leeks-Mignon and we will soon be adding a new section just for them. You can find this new product in all your Metro and Metro Plus supermarkets. Check the circular and cookery magazines for new recipe ideas.
